Mountain Equipment Torres 2 - ME Comments

Mountain Equipment Torres 2

Mountain Equipment's Richard Talbot has been in touch regarding our updated test of the Torres 2 tent, which identified several possible issues with the tent. The serious problem with the de-bonding suspension points was due to a production fault and the original batch of Torres tents were recalled from retailers for this reason.

The Torres tents on sale now are new models without this fault and ME urge anyone who's had a problem with the Torres to return it to their retailer for replacement or refund.

Here is Mountain Equipment's statement in full, good to see a manfufacturer taking comments seriously.

Torres Tent

During our own exhaustive testing, Mountain Equipment has identified a fault that occurred in production. A failure to correctly stitch several suspension points into the flysheet seam causes these points to fail under even moderate loading. As such, we took the decision to re-call all the Torres tents from retailers.

New stocks of Torres tents have now been made available to retailers. Anyone who has experienced a problem with their Torres tent should return it to their retailer for a replacement or full refund.

We cannot guarantee that any of our tents will not suffer from condensation but do look at all our designs closely to ensure that they will work in the conditions we state them as being suitable for. The Torres uses a 'peg to ground' design whereby the flysheet runs straight to ground level, making the tent much more stable in winds and preventing spindrift etc from entering underneath. This does mean however that the use of vents is more important and that in certain climatic conditions you may experience slightly more condensation.

The optional fourth pole? Following the instructions, the Black pole should be inserted first. Otherwise it will prove more difficult to insert.

Mountain Equipment prides itself on manufacturing clothing and equipment of the highest quality. Many of our other tents have received rave reviews this year and have worked faultlessly for many of our customers. That said, even one negative comment on our tents is one too many and we have passed on all your comments to our tent designer Frank Merks.

We do take all comments on our equipment very seriously and would urge all OUTDOORSmagic user's to get in touch should they have any questions or concerns relating to any of our products. We can be contacted via our website.

I have heard it on the grapevine that Mountain Equipment are considering selling the faulty batch of the Torres 2 back to retailers to sell at half price...

Apparently the tents were returned to the manufacturers to repair the dodgy de-bonded suspension points, this has been done (somewhat over zealously) thereby solving the tent's problems, but leaving a slightly anaethetic look.

If any retailers pick them up you could be looking at getting this £325 tent at half price. Quite tempting...?
