It's official, after around two years of deliberation, the
Guinness Book of Records has recognised Terra Nova's Laserlite
as 'The Lightest Tent In The World' - ironically just in time for it
to be replaced by the new, even lighter, Laser Competiion.
When it was released last year, the Laserlite was claimed
as the first sub-1000 grammes, twin-skin, two-person tent with a 990
gramme minimum weight and a packed weight of 1140 grammes. Time's
moved on though and its replacement, the Laser Competition -
below - has sliced 200 grammes off the old tent's weight even though
it has a longer name.
The Competition's single-pole tips the scales at a packed weight
of 953 grammes and a somewhat bonkers useable weight of just 873
grammes - the size of the tent however, remains exactly the same.
The good news is that a limited number of Laser Competitions will
be in the shops this October.
And That's Not All...
The lightweight theme continues with the new Laserlarge 3 a
generously proportioned two-person tent with a huge porch that weighs
just 2.1 kg and there's also a new lightweight version of the classic
Voyager with a lighter flysheet that's 15 per-cent lighter
than this year's standard model at 1.7 kg.
The standard weight tents have been tweaked too with the Ultra
Quasar and the Solar 2 both getting a new white inner tent - above - new
lighter poles and redesigned pole sleeves. All those changes
effective from early 2006.
