Wherever I lay my pillow, that's my home, or something like that.
Problem is that finding a decent camping pillow which combines light weight
and small packsize with decent comfort has always been a bit of a
'mare.
We've
tried various combinations of fleece, boots and oher clothing but we
always seem to end up with a cord grip up one nostril and a
zipper-tooth patteron on our face. The best we've managed is a
combination of down jacket and fleece, but it's never been ideal.
Until now that is, when we discovered the Ajungilak Air
Pillow. As you can probably guess, it's an inflatable, ergonomic
camping pillow made by sleeping bag maestros, Ajungilak to celebrate
their 150th birthday. Apparently it uses something called Air Comfort
Cushioning Technology, but in fact it's the same technology found in
inflatable penguins and the like - ie: a PVC plasticcy bag thing that
you inflate by blowing into a tube.
Where the Air Pillow scores is by having a nice, scalloped,
ergonomic shape and a soft, luxurious fleecy cover that feels nice
against your delicate skin. It's dead comfy and, as with a
self-inflating mattress, you can adjust the air pressure to suit.
It comes with its own neat little stuff sac and packs down to a
respectably small size, like an almost finished toilet roll. It's a
sod to get back into the stuff sac though. Weight on the OM scales of
truth was just 145 grammes, size when inflated is 48x37 cm and priced
at a mere £13, it's an ideal present for that hard to please
outdoors person at ******mas time. Available in any colour as long as
it's yellowy orange or orangey yellow.
