Petzl Torches 80 Per-Cent Brighter

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

A quick heads-up on the Petzl headtorch front, it seems that the latest Petzl LEDs are now a whopping 80 per-cent brighter than last year's models...

The relevant torches are the ultra-compact Tikka and Zipka models along with the Tikka and Zipka Plus. That means the Plus versions now have a range of more than 30 metres where previously the figure was just 17 metres.

Astonishingly, a new Tikka today shines almost three times brighter than a new one at the time it was launched back in September 2000 - has it really been around that long?

The vanilla Zipka and Tikka LED torches both retail for £25 while the Plus versions are a fiver more at £30.

Biased view here as I am the publicist for Petzl, but you may be interested to know that the technology that makes the Petzl LED lighting 80% brighter in 2006, has also been applied to those torches with halogen/LED combinations, like the Myo and Myolite collections, and not just the LED-only models.

I notice also that OM still carry (quite rightly) the lookalike warning article, and it is now more relevant than ever. Money may be saved at the time of purchase on a Tikk-alike, but performance short or long term make it so not worth the money.
