While we've been following the British Army team on Everest, amny
OUTDOORSmagic readers will be just as interested in the progress of
OMer Conan Harrod - below - who is attempting the mountain
again after his epic attempt back in 2003.
Last time, caught out and injured by another climber's accident high on the
mountain, Conan was forced to crawl back down the route and was
fortunate to survive. This year, just weeks after his marriage to a
fellow OMer - see article links below - he's back on the mountain with
Adventure Peaks.
The team is sending back regular bulletins to their web site and
the good news is that after an early setback, Conan now seems to be
going well. According to the latest update, on Sunday, he started
well with successful ascents of he North Col and the local 7000m peak
of Lhakpa Ri, he contracted a chest infection.
The coughing was so violent that it caused a minor back injury,
but the infection has now cleared and he managed to reach 7500 metres
on the North Ridge last Wednesday. Apparently his leg, which he broke
in 2003, is holding out well and he 'feels strong'.
According to everestnews.com
several teams have been launching summit attempts and we'd like to
wish Conan good luck on his whenever it takes place. You can follow
the team's progress at www.adventurepeaks.com
Finally, Conan is self-financed, but is climbing to raise money
for Christies, you can make a donation on line at www.justgiving.com/everest
