ViewRanger GPS navigation software now runs on some of the latest
Nokia mobile phones, we're told.
The
software, which we reviewed
last week, is now compatible with Symbian V9 S60 3rd Edition Phones
such as the Nokia N80, Nokia 3250 and Nokia N91 for the first time.
The higher resolution screens, greater memory capacity and ability to
orientate the screen for landscape display apparently allows
ViewRanger to provide an enhanced map display for the user.
If you missed our review, essentially, the software allows you to
navigate using 1:50,000 OS maps on your mobile phone and includes a
panorama view option which lets you see your virtual horizon with
name tags, so you can settle those arguments over whether that really
in Great Gable or just a dead sheep that looks a bit like it in the
wrong light...
You can also use the software to share images and notes associated
with locations and features.
It's all very cunning and arguably combines the best features of
GPS and PDA-based software in a compact useable package, the only
drawback is the inability to plan routes in advance using mapping
software.
Two editions are available, a UK-wide version and a National Parks
edition covering the most popular outdoor areas including the Lakes,
Snowdonia and all National Parks.
A free trial version of ViewRanger for Nokia S60 2nd and 3rd
Edition platforms is available to download from the www.viewranger.com
website so you can try before you buy.
