A bit of a scoopette for you on the Montane front. This is
stuff that's due out this autumn and should be in the shops in
around a month's time and we reckon the star of the show is a new
fleece jacket called the Panther.
If you're a boy though, you're out of luck, for now the Panther is
for girls only. What makes it interesting is that it uses one of
those fluffy-faced fleece fabrics that get made into fashiony
fleeces. In this case it's a Polartec material called Wind Pro, which
is quite wind resistant, a bit like Ultrafleece.
The genius of it is that instead of sticking the air-trapping
fluffy bit on the outside where wind can simply blow the air away,
Montane has put the fluff where it belongs, next to the body with the
close-woven smooth face providing protection from the wind.
Should be super cosy and looks brilliant too. Cut is nicely
tapered and women's specific with stretch panels under
the arms and at the cuffs and handy handwarmer pockets. Price is
around £80 and weight should be 550 grammes for a UK 12.
Also coming soon... 100 gramme waterproof jacket...
More details soon, but you can also expect a proper,
women's-specific version of the pile/Pertex Extreme Smock, a
new 320-gramme eVENT waterproof called the Quickfire - that's
around 100 grammes less than the classic Superfly by the way - and
the Contour, an eVENT walker's jacket.
Lightweight freaks will be delighted to hear about the new
Featherlight H2O jacket - above. Not to be confused with the windproof
Featherlight Smock, the new H2O is a completely waterproof, breathable
jacket no hood that weighs in at an insanely light 100 grammes...
Yes, you read that correctly.
It's a minimalist design with a full zip, drop tail, reflective
dots, and micro seam tape. Pack size is similar to an average apple,
but more effective in keeping the rain off. Price will be around
£60.
