New EOG Association for Conservation

By Susan

The European Outdoor Group has set up a new conservation initiative to help protect endangered wilderness areas. The EOG Association for Conservation was launched (alongside rooms full of windproof fabric and fleece) at the Outdoor Show in Freidrichshafen, Germany, last month. The aim is to raise 150,000 Euros within the first year to donate to grass roots conservation groups. You can find details of sponsored projects on the group's new website.

We've all seen increasing media attention on global warming in the last few years. The effects on the mountain environment specifically are marked, with half the volume of Europe's Alpine glaciers disappearing between 1850 and the present day. As the outdoor industry depends on this endangered environment, it's no surprise there's been a good response to the new Association for Conservation. A number of leading outdoor clothing manufacturers signed up straight away, and Camelbak donated 25,000 Euros from the sale of their new bottle, launched at the Friedrickhshafen show. A thumbs up to them and to other member organisations, including Nike ACG, Patagonia, The North Face, Cascade Designs, Paramo, Haglofs and Nikwax.

Membership is open to anyone involved in the outdoor industry, and 100% of the subscription price will go towards conservation projects.
