Mountain Hardwear Transition Updated
I've been using the Transition long-sleeved zip-top for a few
weeks now and it's insidiously become my baselayer of choice - the
first thing I chuck in the pack if I'm off for the weekend or pull on
if I'm going mountain biking.

Transition: slowly becoming our
first choice
baselayer for all activities, but a tad pricey...
|
Why? Well, the windproofing makes it much more versatile than a
normal base layer, it can cope on its own with conditions up to and
including quite heavy rain, but if you want, you can wear it as a
normal baselayer with no breathability problems.
On Saturday I used it for a four hour bike ride in the Hayfield /
Edale area in respectably vile conditions, in the later stages under
a PacLite waterproof breathable jacket. At the end, everything I was
wearing was soaking wet, except for the inside of the Transition top,
which remarkably was bone dry. That makes for a very handy
combination of weatherproofing and breathability.
Why a windproof baselayer? I have no idea, but the proof of the
pudding is in the wearing and it works. The only thing I violently
dislike about Transition is the price - £110 is an awful lot to
ask for a zip-tee however good it is...
