Last week the gallery was all about the Alps and Pyrenees; this week New Zealand has grabbed the limelight, thanks to Simon Tavner's album from South Island. So, it's time to catch up with his photos - and plenty from the UK as well - in this week's (slightly belated) gallery round-up.
Starting with the promised Kiwi shots - we had a hard time deciding which of these to feature. Mitre Peak's always a winner though, whatever the weather. Even if you catch it in the rain, when half the mountain's hidden by cloud, you've still got hundreds of waterfalls pouring into Milford Sound. No need for that consolation here though ... The picture comes from Simon Tavner's Photos, along with numerous other New Zealand landscapes, and even a spot of surf.

Heading back to one of last week's main photography spots, here's another picture from Marcus Crompton's Pyrenean Holiday album. The album's grown rapidly in the last few days, so if there isn't quite enough snow for you on Steven's shot of the Southern Alps, you'll find plenty more here.

Just to show that it's summer back on this side of the Pacific, and the English Channel, here's a spot of colour to keep things bright and cheerful... For some more bright colours - and an array of standing stones and ponies - take a peep at Elaine's Dartmoor Allsorts album.

Further afield, John Darling's sent us this shot of Mera Peak, from his 2005 expedition. It's the only photo in his Himalayas 2005 album, but we'd love to see more.

And finally, Mark H's Pics is another small album, but a very sunny one. As well as the blue sky here there's a dazzling sun shining over Snowdon to be found inside. Now that's something you don't see every day:-)

That's it for this week's round-up. Michael Sayles' shot of The Storr is still in the lead in this month's photo competition, with Simon Tavner posing the strongest threat. Thanks for all the images so far and keep them coming. If you want any ideas for good photo spots, also take a look at our routes section. Walking routes all contain a photo grade to give you an idea how scenic they're likely to be - see the latest one, on the Mosedale Horseshoe, in the Lakes. As it turned into a snap-happy day out for Dave Mycroft, the OM routes editor, there's also a photo article to accompany it. The weekly route is published every Monday, so keep checking the site for more walking ideas.
