More New Osprey Packs

Gear news in association with

Following on from our little Osprey Packs preview yesterday, our special agent Oliver has filed another report from the recent Friedrichshafen Outdoor trade show, so we can fill in a few gaps...

More Talons

We told you all about the new Talon 44 due out late this year, but what we didn't mention was that the 44-litre version is just the largest of a range of four new ultra-lightweight Talon packs.

Aimed at superlightweight afficionados, the Talon also comes in 11, 22 and 33-litre versions. They all feature a ventilated back panel with ridge-moulded foam, lightweight fabrics, a 4mm HDPE foam back panel and stretch back and side pockets. They're also all, as you'd expect, fully hydration system compatible.

Claimed weights are impressive too with the 11-litre version tipping the scales at around 600 grammes, the 22 at 770 grammes, the 33 around 800 and the 44, as we reported yesterday, just over a kilogramme. Weights vary according to the back-length size.

They should be ideal for anyone looking to save a bunch of weight from their pack while retaining a fully-featured sac. Prices will range from £50 for the smallest version through to £100 for the 44-litre one with the 22 and 33 coming in at £60 and £70 respectively.

Big Atmos, Big Aura...

Also new later this year are 65-litre versions of both the Atmos - below - and its women's-specific alternative, the Aura.

The new packs use the proven Atmos principles, but with a beefed up AirSpeed suspension system with larger 10mm aluminium rods and a thicker 10mm harness and hip-belt.

Features in the lightweight backpacking sac include a conventional floating top pocket combined with additional zip access to the main sac through a zipped opening in the front pocket and space for a hydration pack within the back system cavity.

With weights for the Atmos between 1560 and 1730 grammes depending on size and between 1560 and 1640 for the Aura, the packs should make great lightweight backpackers, particularly if they carry as well as their smaller brethren.

Price will be £140 for both variants.

Your Pack's In The Oven, Dear...
Take one very expensive, high tech hip-belt and roast gently for ten minutes before applying to user. Leave for a further ten minutes before attempting to use. Yep, it's a new recipe from Osprey.
