Christmas Cracker Six - Gorillapod

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

What do you buy for the outdoor person who has everything? Between now and Christmas, we'll be running a daily Christmas Cracker featuring an inspired Christmas gift idea to help you cope with that tricky purchasing situation.

Number Six: Joby Gorillapod

No, it's not a pod to keep your gorilla in until you need to pop him out for emergency use, the Gorillapod is actually an ingenious camera tripod that's ideally suited to outdoors use on those days when you simply can't be bothered to lug a whopping great tripod around with you.

Designed for use with compact digital cameras, though of course it'd work just as well with conventional compacts, the three legs of the 'pod can be contorted into pretty much any position to cope with undulations or give a leach-like hold on, say, a tree trunk or a vertical gatepost.

You could even, say the makers, wrap it around a handy-shaped rock to give you a stable platform for snapping that killer sunset or low light landscape. Or just use it as a conventional mini-tripod. There's a quickly detachable plate that fits onto the base of your camera for rapid deployment as well.

You can find full details on the Woodland Organics web site at www.woodlandorganics.com. Price is around £20 and there's also an SLR version for around double that.
