Christmas Cracker Ten - Personalised Maps

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

What do you buy for the outdoor person who has everything? Between now and Christmas, we'll be running a daily Christmas Cracker featuring an inspired Christmas gift idea to help you cope with that tricky purchasing situation.

Number Ten: Personalised OS Select Maps

You know how sometimes maps ends right at the wrong point and you just walk off them? The new Ordnance Survey Select maps should put an end to that and make a great personalised Christmas present into the bargain.

You can enter a postcode and order a one-off map centred around it in either 1:50,000 or 1:25,000 forms. On top of that, you can choose a cover image from the selection on the OS web site, your own map title and choose to have your map supplied flat or folded. You can even have the key in Welsh...

Prices are £15.99 for the Landranger and £16.99 for the Explorer and at the moment, postage is free. More details and online ordering at www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk.

Alternatively, if you want a weatherproof laminated Select map, you can order one direct from the guys at Aqua3 - www.aqua3.co.uk for a special introductory offer price of £19.99.

And if a customised map doesn't float your boat, the Ordnance Survey has finally released its own Explorer Map - Active range of encapsulated 1:25,000 Explorers. Like the Aqua3 versions, they're much lighter and more manageable than older laminated maps and cover many popular walking areas. Price is £13.99.
