The Weekly Gallery Round-Up

Bridgedale logo

It's New Year and Santa's just done the rounds with his six mega-pixel digital cameras, 2 gig memory cards, tripods, gorillapods, fancy lenses, and everything else photography-lovers want for Christmas - we hope.

But even if you didn't find the zoom-tastic camera you've been eyeing up under the tree on Christmas morning, at least the landscape's stayed the same. If anything, it's been even better than usual for photographers over the holiday period. We've already seen a string of superb cloud inversions in the gallery, and they're still arriving thick and fast...

Neil Higgins made it above the clouds and managed to capture the sunset as well all in one fell swoop. For more of his photography, visit the small but stylish album, Dark Chest of Wonders, where there's a bit of a red sky theme going on ...

From red light to no light, Hamish decided to try out his camera at night for a change. The result's pretty stunning so we hope he'll try a repeat of the experiment some time. There's plenty more photographic variety in his The H album, where you can find everything from stunning knife edged ridges and tranquil beaches to over-friendly pigs and very strange looking badgers:-)

Night-time Snowdonia
Night-time, Snowdonia, by Hamish Fenton

We mostly see broad hillsides and sweeping panoramas on OM, but here's the exception that proves the rule. At least someone's managed to find some snow this winter and capture its formations in minute detail. Great stuff. More in John's Lochaber album.

Eskdale was snow-free when Michael S was up there but that made no difference to last month's photography competition winner. His pic oozes atmosphere. More in Photos by Michael S, including Newlands Valley, which bagged him a few pairs of Bridgedale Trekkers last month.

The next photo's on the brooding side as well, and comes from the brtraffordphotos album. For anyone who loves the Peak District, you wouldn't find a much better shot of the Mam Tor Ridge ...

Ullswater

Finally, Foam Bob Padded Pants has been particularly prolific over the last few weeks, sending us a bundle of stunning scenes. His Jelly's Album has it all, switching from black and white to colour photography, hillsides to lakes, and sunshine to snow in just six photographs, and it's bagged rather a lot of votes into the bargain. Here are a couple of them to whet your appetite.

Neil Higgins says the first is a wonderful photo, but it's also an over-done shot of Buachaille Etive Mor. Can anyone find a different viewpoint to photograph the hill? Have you two pennies worth on the matter.

Thanks to everyone who's submitted photos to the gallery - we always look forward to browsing through them. All OM members have 3MB of space to upload their own photos, so keep them coming.

If you want some inspiration for places to go walking, try the routes section where a new walking or scrambling route appears by magic each week - or by courtesy of the OM routes editor. Also, if you want to know about the latest gear to wear on the hill, try our latest gear reviews.
