Recent search suggests that using lithium batteries with
some LED headtorches could cause damage and lead to reduced bulb
life, but this doesn't, says Princeton Tec, apply to its
torches.
The
US-based lighting specialist says that it recognised the problem
during its own research and took it into account when designing its
LED models allowing you to use lithium cells without encountering
problems.
The main advantage of lithium technology is lighter weight and
longer burn times and, particularly relevant for outdoor use,
significantly improved performance in cold weather when conventional
alkaline and rechargeable batteries slow down as the chemical reactions inside them are retarded.
The company says power regulating circuits eliminate the problems
while giving better and more understandable burn times - there are
some issues with the way these are measured generally with LED
torches, which can be confusing.
Princeton Tec models using the technology include the £30
Quad (pictured) - a 96-gramme, 4-LED lightweight all-rounder
with a 150-hour burn time - Eos and the very bright Apex torches and
we've been very impressed with test samples from the company in the
past.
