Lakes locals who are passionate about the outdoors could have a
real say in Lake District rights of way and access matters by
getting involved in the Local Access Forum.
The Forum is a 20-strong independent body which has a leading role
in advising the Lake District National Park Authority in right of way
and local access. Currently its members are working with the
Authority on the Rights of Way Improvement Plan, designed to give
people more opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.
LDNPA's access development adviser Barney Hill says good
communication and networking skills are essential, along with sound
countryside knowledge.
"Our members are committed to making the countryside more
accessible and enjoyable," said Barney. "This is an exciting
opportunity to influence the management of countryside access across
the Lake District."
"We are looking for people who have a specific interest in
countryside access, such as landowners, land managers, users and
conservationists."
There are currently four forum vacancies in land management, two
in recreation and one in nature conservation and heritage. The
closing date for applications is 27 February and the body meets four
times a year.
