I'm with Richard G. in preferring liners to covers. One further advantage to note is that with a liner you can still put wet stuff into your pack without getting any of the dry stuff wet, just by packing it in the rucksack but outside of the liner. Very handy for wet waterproofs /after/ the deluge, wet tent flysheets, and other stuff you want away from clean, dry kit including dirty pots and pans, fuel etc.
