Latest in the Wayfayrer range of camping food is a
limited edition All Day Breakfast that will come free as part
of a special promotion.
The deal is that if you buy three Wayfayrer meals, you'll get thej
All Day Breakfast completely free of charge, which can't be bad
really. Obviously, like the name says, you can eat it either as a
breakfast or as a main meal at any other time in the day.
Like other Wayfayer meals, the ADB - phew, less of a mouthfull,
ahem - comes packaged in a tough foil sachet so you can either remove
and heat directly or boil in the bag - 7-8 minutes - for maximum
convenience and eat directly from its pouch.
The breakfast version includes beans, pork sausage, spice,
omelette, smoked bacon and a lot of other stuff which you may or may
not want to consume.
As with other Wayfayer meals, because it's a 'wet', pre-cooked
ensemble, it's relatively heavy with the ADB weighing in at 339
grammes on the OM digital scales. From that you'll get a bit under
400 calories and, as ever, we'd suggest that you need to add some
extra carbo like bread, rice or similar for a full meal.
We'd also like to see the packaging revised so that there's just a
pouch rather than a pouch in a plastic bag. It seems a waste of
resources to double bag the meal, particularly when you need to carry
the packaging out afterwards.
Anyway, in a selfless moment of culinary madness, we're going to
eat the ADB breakfast for lunch. Back in a while with our considered
opinion.
The Taste Test
As promised, we checked out the Wayayrer ADB at first hand, on
toast with titanium cutlery. And basically, if you're familiar with
all-day breakfasts in a can, you'll know roughly what to expect in
the form of a slightly guilt-riden mix of baked beans, sausages, a
miniature omelette and small chunks of what claims to be bacon.

OK, it's never going to win Michelin stars, but it's a filling and
satisfying post-exercise munch with a couple of slices of toast and
some ketchup and the component parts did feel slightly firmer than
the canned equivalent.
You could have much the same result from a canned version, but
then you'd have to carry an extra 100 grammes or so and anyway, the
Wayfayrer versions costs nowt if you buy three other meals.
Verdict Strangely tasty though a tad too many additives and
too much packaging.
