Pillow Pump Makes Inflation Easy

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

As most of us know, self-inflating sleeping pads don't usually live up to their name, usually it takes a hefty oral air injection to get them anything like close to inflated, but Ajungilak now has an alternative in the form of the D-Lux Pump Mat.

It's already an interesting bit of kit with a combination of air and synthetic insulation giving what's claimed to be 'sumptuous comfort' allied to a pack size 65 per-cent smaller than conventional self-inflating pads, but it also has an integral foot pump to allow easy inflation.

The pump is buried inside the mat's foam pillow - yes, pillow - and allows rapid inflation without any exhausting, balloon-style blowage being required. Just use those powerful leg muscles and you're there.

The pad contains synthetic fibre filling called MTI 12 which stops heat loss through convection currents within the air chambers of the bag, but is also lighter and packs down smaller than the foam used in most self-inflaters.

At 890 grammes it's no superlightweight, but to put that in perspective, it's around half the weight of an Alpkit Fat Airic which has a similar thickness - between 7cm and 10cm due to the quilted design - and massively smaller when packed and definitely backpackable if you want some mobile luxury.

Price is a somewhat hefty £110 and you can find full details at www.mammut.ch.
