Munro baggers can rest easy with the news that Foinaven has
failed to make the 3000-foot grade after being re-measured by
surveyors last month.

Instead the mountain is officially just 2,988 feet high, some 12
feet below the magic level. Surveyors used satellite technology to
check the height of the hill.
The decision will come as a relief to many baggers who assumed
that they'd 'compleated' all Scotland's 3000-foot hills, but the jury
is still out on Beinn Dearg in Torridon...
Since Foinaven is actually 11 feet shorter than previously
thought, it begs the question of whether marginal Munros should all
be re-measured?
