If it's Friday, then it must be time for the Friday Matinee - the
clue is in the day - our weekly selection of video clips designed
specifically to while away the dead dull hours before the weekend
comes...
And for a refreshing change, we thought we'd take a look at Via
Ferrata, those weird continental things that take you up sheer rock
faces with the air of metal ladders, chains and cables. Lots of
atmosphere, minimum danger.
To kick off, the nice guys over at Country Walking have videoed
their first go at the new Via Ferrata on Fleetwith Pike in the Lake
District. It's a bit blurry and quite low key, but hey, it's British
feel the scenery :-)
But enough of our feeble imitations, how about a look at the real
thing where it all started in the Italian Dolomites :-)
Not that you have to go to the Dolomites for your fix. This shorty
is by viaferrata.com and in France - we like that bridge... Some
great footage.
Last but not least, if you've ever wondered how new via ferrata
are installed, here's the answer. Admittedly it's in French, but
you'll get the idea - think drills :-)
That's just scratching the surface. Go search for 'via ferrata'
and we reckon you'll be booking your flights by the weekend :-)
Oh what the heck, here's one more, this time in German... whew,
nice.
