Win An Alpkit Hunka Bivi Bag!

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

We introduced you to Alpkit's new Hunka bivi bag yesterday, but we've now got some more information plus a chance to win one of your own.

Right now, Alpkit tell us, the Hunkas are at sea progressing in a rolling fashion towards the UK but they should be available to buy from around 16 July or at least during that week. Price should be £25.

Alpkit tell us that they put a lot of work into getting the pattern spot on to keep the weight and price down, but at the same time keeping it roomy enough to house an Alpine Dream 900 without squashing the filling and reducing insulation.

The fabric itself - a PU-coated one - is water resistant to 10,000mm - think tent groundsheet levels - and has a Moisture Vapour Transfer Rate of 10,000g/m2/24hr - in English that's 'respectably breathable' and should certainly be more than adequate for a bivi bag in normal use.

Average weight is 388 grammes, it says here, there's an integral mesh bag that you fold the Hunka into for storage so there's no stuffsac to lose. The hood uses a dual drawcord and is designed so it can overlap the opening in really bad weather creating a decent seal despite the lack of a zip, though in really heavy, direct rain you'd probably get wet - then again, who wants to bivi in heavy rain...

All in all, it looks like another winner from Alpkit with their direct sourcing and internet sales strategy allowing them to use a decent fabric and design and still keep costs down. Very neat.

Win A Hunka

If you'd like to win a Hunka of your very own, you can pre-register your interest at www.alpkit.com and not only will you be told when the Hunka's available, but one lucky person will win a free Hunka of their own.
