It seems like a while ago now but the Isle of Skye took on the best of the Alps in last month's photography competition, and the good old home-grown wonders of the Cuillin Hills came out on top.
That should come as no surprise to lovers of one of the UK's most stunning ridges, but for those who haven't made the acquaintance of the Cuillins yet, take a look at this photo and you might find yourself Skye-ward bound sooner than you think.

Cuillins, by Alan Bellis
Alan Bellis tells us that the photo was taken from Plockton during a week of mixed weather - surely not on Skye? - with only one completely fine day. Fortunately, he wasted no time when the weather window appeared.
There are plenty more impressive pics where this one came from too, and as Alan won three pairs of socks in last month's photography competition to add to the three he's won this month, we can't decide which he excels at more: clean-smelling feet or taking pictures. See more in Alan's Mountain Travels 5.
Runner-Up
Another gallery regular, Marcus Crompton, took second prize in the comp and another couple of pairs of socks will be winging their way to him shortly to add to his collection. He tells us that the pairs he won in OM's first Bridgedale photography competition have had heavy wear and that he included the word 'darn' in the title of his photo as a hint that he could do with some more. Well, it may look like the ploy worked, buth somehow we think the fantastic scenery had more to do with it.

Pretty Darn Good, by Marcus Crompton
Once you've finished wishing you'd been on holiday in Italy this summer, take a moment to discuss the cost of being guided up the Matterhorn, the number of people playing bowls with the rocks up above, and exactly which Italian High Level Route we're talking about anyway:-)
That's it for this month but there'll be five more pairs of Bridgedale Trekkers up for grabs at the end of September, so get uploading those photos as a shortcut to dry, clean, comfortable-footed photography.
