It's time to reveal some more of the top outdoor manufacturers' geary plans for 2008, fresh from the Friedrichshafen Outdoor Trade Show - well, kind of fresh anyway:-) This time the crystal ball falls on the future of Ajungilak...
The Norwegian manufacturer of nocturnal warmth will be setting foot on the virgin territory - for them - of women's sleeping bags early next year. But far from following in the footsteps of existing women's sleeping bag manufacturers, they've come up with rather a neat package of their own ideas.
Everyone jokes about women feeling the cold, so Ajungilak reckons that a sleeping bag alone won't quite do the job - the gals might need a jacket too. The result is the Kira sleeping bag, which has an extra internal feature that can be slipped over the arms and shoulders as a jacket whilst sitting in the bag - see picture below. Sounds cosy for reading in bed, or just chatting about the day's trek.
Other features include wider hips and narrower shoulders to accommodate a woman's body shape as efficiently as possible, and an extra layer of insulation around the feet. Some extra space has also been added around the elbow area for ease of movement.
The bag comes in two season, three season and four season versions, retailing for £105, £115, and £125 respectively, and it's stuffed with Ajungilak's own filling, MTI.
Another new sleeping bag set to hit the shops early in 2008 is the Tosca, which also features an internal jacket, but it's a lighter and cheaper bag, retailing for £70 in the summer version, and £80 for the spring version.
And finally, the Little Mammutis a children's sleeping bag with an additional piece which can either zip onto the end of the bag, adding 50cm to its length - handy for when the kids want to do anything inconvenient like grow a bit taller! - or else spend its days as an insulating stuffsac, or perhaps a combination of the two. Retail price is £40.
All sounds interesting. Watch this space for more information and reviews early next year.
