Kendal Festival - Just Days To Go!

It's almost time for this year's Kendal Mountain Festivals kicking off this Friday 9 November and running through till Sunday 18 November with the bulk of the big hitters on the final weekend.

The organisers reckon they've landed a bit of a coup with Far North, so far shown only at the Venice and London Film Festivals headlining the opening night. Billed as 'a dark epic tale set in the harsh beauty of the Arctic', the film stars Sean Bean, Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Michelle Krusiec.

Then on the Saturday 10 November, the International Festival of Mountain Literature has a themed day titled 'When is adventure madness?' encompassing music, reading, dscussions, conversations and debates, though we're not sure of the distinctions between the latter three...

The line-up includes Jeff Long, Geoff Powter, Tony Streather, Charles Lind, Clint Willis, John Porter and Mikel Vause with Ed Douglas, Vicki Robinson, Ian Smith and Jan Levi. Chaired by the inimitable Terry Gifford. Should be fascinating stuff.

There's loads more besides - apparently the big-screen premiere of The Beckoning Silence is almost sold out. True it was recently screened on Channel 4, but imagine some of those shots on a big screen...

If you want to know more, book on line or download the free festival programme in PDF format, then get over to www.mountainfilm.co.uk.
