Pure Hydration has launched the Thirst Aid Bag a
water-purification bag designed primarily for emergency use in
disaster zones, but also suitable for use by travellers and
trekkers.
The bag
is about the same size as a hot water bottle and can convert
contaminated water into pure, drinkable water with the minimum of
hassle and without any moving parts using the same filtering
technology as the company's excellent Aquapure Traveller, which we've
used successfully while trekking in Nepal and the Andes.
The bag kills viruses and bacteria as well as removing pathogens
such as cryptosporidium and giardia. It also removes dirt, sediment,
chemicals, bad tastes and odours.
Armour Weave
Pure Hydratiion says that the filter is good for around 350 litres
of water making it a very effective emergency water purification
solution. It also uses a tough 'armour weave material' for
durability, which should make the bag attractive to anyone unsure of
the robustness of the standard plastic Aquapure Traveller.
The filter system used in the Thirst Aid Bag and the Aquapure
Traveller has been tested by the London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine, endorsed by the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and
tested in an American laboratory, where it passed Environmental
Protection Agency and National Sanitation Foundation testing
protocols for water filters and purifiers.
