Give The Gift Of Footpath This Christmas

Give someone the gift of a restored footpath this Christmas and the Heritage Lottery Fund will triple your donation, says Fix The Fells.

The Lake District footpath repair project says you can make a donation online right now, then print off an instant certificate with a personalised message showing how the money would help.

And the really good news is that if you give a pound, the Heritate Lottery Fund will match that twice over so a donation of £10 becomes £30, which is pretty cool.

High Street from the gallery - Marcus Crompton. The trail linking it to
Mardale Ill Bell is now ten metres wide in places and runs like a
river in wet weather.

The project needs those funds as well, it costs around £100 to restore just one metre of footpath and although Fix the Fells has already repaired 120 damaged routes there are still 50 to go with extensive use and heavy rain meaning erosion is worsening all the time.

You could for example, pay £10 for £10 for a metre of path side vegetation or £25 to get stone moved to site? Or if you're feeling particularly flush, £250 wil get you some much needed specialised drainage work and £600 will cover an hour's use of a helicopter to fly stone to high places.

Fix the Fells project adviser Richard Fox says: "Buying presents can be a nightmare so we thought up a novel way of easing the pressure and helping preserve the stunning landscape into the bargain. It's a great way for walkers to give something back."

Sounds good to us. For more details see www.fixthefells.co.uk/donationform
