Lifesystems Launches Surviving Adventure Course

Lifesystems, the specialist in adventure travel equipment, has launched an unusual Surviving Adventure skills course to mark the introduction of its updated first aid kits.

The course run by medical experts Prometheus Medical is based in Hereford and run by ex-special forces medical officers and expedition leaders. It uses a two-day format with a strong emphasis on practical experience interspersed with short tutorials and we reckon it could be a real life saver.

'I'm really made up to be here...' - fake gore adds realistm.

The idea is to equip participants to deal with a medical emergency wherever they happen to be in the world and whatever the situation, whether it be up a mountain or in a potentially dangerous urban environment.

In addition to the medical skills, the new course differs from, say, a standard mountain first aid one, in that it will also cover other survival skills like surviving in a hostage situation or recognising and dealing with the risk of landmines.

Previous participant James Brittain desibribes the course as: 'Slick, professional and to the point.  There was no rambling or waffling around subjects and everything that was taught was relevant to travel situations'.

Another participant, Helen Wilson, was particularly interested in the potential for improvisation in emergency situations: ' I never realised that you could make do with stuff if you haven't got the correct medical widget. I feel much more confident that I would be able to help somebody if I ever needed to'.

The first course runs on the weekend of 29-30 March, 2008 with further courses running every other weekend through summer and autumn. Cost is £295 and you can find more details at www.lifesystems.co.uk.
