The impressive
Satmap Active 10 GPS unit is about to become
even more versatile with a series of
upgrades due to be
released at this weekend's OS Outdoors Show at the NEC.
Software Upgrade
A
new version of the operating software, version 1.15 is one major
change. It promises reduced power consumption levels and improvement
in signal retention under difficult conditions.
It also introduces a series of detail improvements and new
features. These include a blue 'you are here'' dot to avoid confusion
with the red track dots, the ability to hide inactive routes and the
ability to download raw track data to a PC.
There's also a 'low power' mode that automatically sets up the
unit to maximise battery life, the ability to reset the track and
trip log simultaneously and the abilityy to lock onto a GPS position
automatically from start-up.
All sounds good to us, with some very sensible upgrades that
should make the unit even easier to use than when we first tested
it.
Synch Software Now Available
Satmap is also, at last, releasing the long awaited SatSYNCH
software which will allow Satmap users to swap routes backwards and
forwards with mapping software like Memory Map, Tracklogs and Map
Source. A beta version of the software is available for all Satmap
users to download at www.satmap.com.
Mac users wll have to wait for now.
Satmap head honcho Richard Calthrop-Owen comments:
"The improvements and enhancements are the result of us listening
to feedback directly from our customer and we are grateful for their
input in helping us create a product that meets user requirements
more closely than other GPS products. As a result, this new software
is not just available to customers who buy an Active 10 from today
onwards, but also to our existing users."
In addition Satmap is also launching its power bundle at the show
including a LiPol battery with numerous charging options and a custom
mapping service, the first for a handheld GPS which can either be
site centred or completely bespoke covering an irregular area or
areas.
