New Lightwave Packs Launched

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

Lightweight specialists Lightwave has two new lightweight packs on the market right now complete with taped and welded seams which make the packs highly water resistant, though not completely watertight.

Arguably the more interesting of the two models is the new Fastpack which is available in 40 and 50-litre versions to carry loads of up to 15 kilos or so. Weights are just over a kilo for both sizes and they're intended for lightweight trips of between two and four days.

The packs are - in classic Lightwave fashion - quite simple. The back system consists of two load-carrying rods and a basic foam-padded back with a single compartment, top opening lid with pocket, twin stretch wand pockets, side compression straps, ice tool / pole holders and a hydration pocket.

Lightwave describes the construction as 'watertight' with a combination of taping and welding on the seams, though they're not technically waterproof thanks to the top access opening. Our guess, in real life, is that it would take a pretty serious deluge to dampe the contents.

And they look rather good too in a modern, minimalist sort of way. Prices are £80 for the Fastpack 40 and £95 for the Fastpack 50. We have a 40 on test, so more impressions to follow shortly.

Wildtrack

The other new Lightwave addition is the Wildtrack in 60-litre guise and as a 55-litre women's specific version. Weights are 1300 and 1350 grammes and load recommendation if for comfort up to 20 kilogrames making them suitable for longer trips.

Again the back system is a simple M-frame rod design - shaped like an 'M' no less', there are two back lengths for each model and seams are, like the Fastpack, taped and welded.

Prices are £125 and £130 and the sealed seams should obviate the need for a cover or liner. Ideal for UK conditions we'd have thought.

Both models are available right now, more information about Lightwave's pack and tent range at www.lightwave.uk.com. Thanks to Clive for his modelling services...
