Bear Grylls Range Survives Into Second Season

By Jon

In a world of pleasing symmetry, the Bear Grylls Survival Collection from Craghoppers has, er, survived into its second season and - with endorsement from the TV survival expert - has apparently been 'really successful'.

The kit, says Craghoppers, is the result of Bear's '10-year quest to find apparel and equipment which are strong and durable enough to see him through his adventures'.

That's one long shopping expedition, but fortunately the new collection for this autumn uses colours which are 'a true reflection of Bear's character, based around the important survival colours of bold, bright, orange and red, fused with understated, natural colours of khaki, winter white, pebble and moss that are truly sympathetic to the environments in which Bear spends most of his time'.

New Stuff

Beyond the marketing blarney, the new kit for this autumn includes the Bear Paclite jacket made - unsurprisingly - from Gore-Tex Paclite with a polyester face fabric and aimed at lightweight walkers and travellers.

For colder conditions, there's the Bear Down Jacket and it doesn't take an expert survivalist to work out that it's a down jacket designed in line with the rest of the Bear range.

Lots more besides, but the collection also includes a merino baselayer top for a good combination of odour and moisture management.

Of course it's easy to mock TV experts and their clothing endorsements, but its' not such a bad thing that you can find kit that uses technical fabrics, but looks a little less traditional than most outdoors gear.

You can see the current range of Bear Grylls kit from Craghoppers at www.craghoppers.com.

A technical jacket made for Gore-tex paclite.  Thats a move for craghoppers who were one of the first to use event fabric.

However looking at that jacket it doesn't look like it has a water repellent zip or a double flap and therefore leaves some design issues that may assist the ingress of water.

Also are all those pockets really necessary, I suppose if your thrashing your way through the local forest as a short cut to the pub for a spot of venison.
