We couldn't help noticing Alan Bellis's gallery picture of the
new Snowdon summit building
as it nears completion. All scaffolding has been removed and the
remaining work on the building front involves 'landscaping the grounds
around it' and 'adding the final touches to the train platform'.
That doesn't mean an imminent opening though - it was originally
scheduled for July 2008 - work on the upper section of the mountain
railway means that projected opening has been put back until spring
2009.
Reaction on the
OM
forum has been mixed, with it being described as
'like a toilet block' and 'a pickled onion in a fruit salad', though a
few posters grudgingly admit that it could be worse. There are a few
more pics in Alan's
album.
No building's ever going to look quite right on top of a mountain in
our opinion, but it's easy to forget just what a shocking sight the
previous block-house construction actually was.
If you're interested in seeing how the building works have progressed
since the demolition of the old building back in September 2006, have a
look at the
Snowdon
Summit Blog, which chronicles the construction
of the new building with some great images -
