A quick visual taster for you of something that landed at OUTDOORSmagic
Mansions yesterday. It's a walking, talking, real life 2009
Osprey Exos 46 pack
and it's a bit of a marvel of minimalist manufacture...
Stow and Go pole holder is back.
We'll have some very interesting news about the pack - due out early
next year - very soon, but for now what we can tell you is that it tips
our digital balance at a very real 1000 grammes on the nail, which may
not sound much, but this is a pack with an aluminium frame to take
decent weight loads, rather than one without a back system.
The other thing you notice straight away is how Osprey has miniaturised
so many areas of the pack. Anything which can be small and light is,
you've guessed it, small and light. That means narrow compression
straps, tiny buckles, pared down ice-axe loops and minimalist hip-belt.
Minimalist compressions straps save grammes.
The combination of lots of small weight savings is part of what makes
the pack light, but still supportive. A propos of which, how does it
carry? You'll have to wait and see, but watch this space...
Alloy tubing back system promises support for heavier loads.
