MSR Whisperlite 600 Stove

Whisperlite Internationale 600

£60.00 plus fuel bottle

Burns: Paraffin, white gas, av gas, car fuel

Time to boil 1 litre: 4 min 30 sec (unleaded)

Weight: 400g

After a raucous night partying with loud boys XGK and Dragonfly, the purring Whisperlite is a blessed relief. Less single purpose than the XGK, it's still a highly efficient, hot burning stove for general backpacking and mountaineering use. It packs small and is easy to service - includes the Shaker Jet system - though the first time you strip down the burner mechanism, you'll wonder at all those burner plates.

You'll save £40 over a Dragonfly and £20 over an XGK, so unless you need the very specialised features of those stoves, it's a sensible and highly effective choice that won't wake the neighbours either.

Verdict: Well proven and splendidly efficient stove that works for everything short of hard core expedition use. The internationale unites the human race... [old joke]

I want to see MSR's web site for myself!

Does it go half-power without sooting up? I'm trying to decide between this and a Dragonfly - priorities are that it's able to work in windy conditions and that it doesn't carbonize yer spaghetti, i.e. can go at less than full pelt, especially if using petrol.
