The Ramblers Association has got
into publishing with a new book featuring 50 routes from their members
which capture 'the best views in Britain' -
'Walk Britain's Great Views'
The
384-page softback book details 50 walks throughout Great Britain which
have been submitted by members of The Ramblers. Each route is
accompanied by a detailed 1:25,000-scale OS map, comprehensive route
description and full colour photographs, some of which are absolutely
stunning. You also get a detailed page or two on the background and
history of the local area. All fascinating stuff.
But of course what you're wondering is what are the 50 best views in
Britain according to The Ramblers. In fact they're a rather nice mix of
the classic and not so well known, so Buchaille Etive Mor features as
does Malham Cove, but there are plenty of lesser known and quirkier
choices.
Parliament Hill for example and Clifton Suspension Bridge along with
Northumberland's beautiful Embleton Bay and places we've never heard of
like The Devil's Steps at Bedruthan in Cornwall.
What it isn't is a regurgitated list of Lakeland and Snowdonian
classics - Cnict represents North Wales for example - which makes it
really refreshing and triggers all sorts of trip-planning day dreams.
A really nice book for whetting the appetite for places you might not
have considered and also a good selection of walks for more adventurous
family outings - as you'd expect most are low to mid-level outings.
