Rab's new lightweight waterproof
jacket, the Slipstream, which uses Pertex Shield, the
first fully waterproof material from the renowned windproof fabric
brand.
The Slipstream uses a 2.5-layer version of Pertex Shield, a
lightweight, soft-feeling fabric which is completely waterproof and
uses Pertex's outer face fabric bonded to a waterproof, breathable PU
laminate.
It's a minimalist thing and part of Rab's weight-slashing Neutrino
family of kit. The Rab web site claims a weight of 295 grammes but
our's is even less at a measured 250 grammes. That's very decently
light, though there are still lighter jackets out there.
Even at that weight, you get two big, venting, mesh-lined pockets,
adjustable drawcord and cuffs and a neat bum-bag comes stuff sack that
weighs in at 32 grammes and should be ideal for runners.
Pertex's own lab figures suggest middle of the pack breathability, but
we'll report back once we've used the Slipstream out in the real world.
