Latest in our spring
2010
gear previews is niche British
pack and tent specialist Lightwave
with a couple of additions to their lightweight pack range.
First off is the new
Ultrahike,
a 60-litre backpacking sac that weighs in at around 1250 grammes.
Esentially, says Lightwave, it's a slightly detuned version of the new
Wildtrek,
which was introduced this year.
The Ultrahike differs in having a lighter back system with no mesh -
above - features a beefed-up hip-belt and has no lower compartment
access. It also uses Lightwave's very effective, tuneable and adaptive
- both? - double-strap hip-belt system for optimum fit and load
transfer.
And finally, like other Lightwave packs, it uses a combination of
welded seams and taped stitching to give a pack that while not
completely waterproof, is 'highly water resistant' making it ideal for
classic British hill and mountain weather. The Ultrahike will be priced
at
£120
and should make an ideal UK backpacking sac for longer trips.
New Day Packs
The other new arrival from the Lightwave 2010 stork, is a
compact range of neat little teardrop-style daypacks, the
Freefall, which
comes in 20, 24 and 28-litre varieties. The seams on these
aren't welded, but they're neat, simple and, says Lightwave, extremely
well made using their normal premium components and materials.
