In November 2009, Páramo-supported adventure athletes Nick Gracie, Warren Bates, Tom Gibbs and Nicola Macleod were crowned Adventure Racing World Champions 2009. It was the first time a British team had won the event, and, in a sport dominated by American team Nike and several strong Kiwi teams, it was only the second time a European team had won.
The race involved running, mountain biking, kayaking, roller blading and climbing, whilst navigating a 900km course through northern Portugal. The team raced non-stop for five and a half days, only sleeping a total of 6 hours during the entire race. The race took teams from the beautiful seaside resort of Estoril, north into the national parks, ancient local villages and the high mountains, then south to paddle 80km along the Spanish/ Portuguese border before returning to the Atlantic coast for the finish line.
Nick Gracie is a world-class adventure athlete who organises and directs a number of notable events including the highly-successful, widely acclaimed and innovative Rat Race Urban Adventure series. He’s been using Páramo since 2005...
"Racing for so long and in a wide range of conditions and temperatures, kit selection can be critical. The team have been using the Páramo Velez Smocks for 5 years now and they’ve never let us down. While other teams suffer in the rain and cold, we remain warm and comfortable, allowing our bodies to perform at their best."
"Páramo have been a fantastic supporter over the years, not only producing superb kit but in the passionate and enthusiastic support we receive from the marketing and technical teams which reflects the wonderful ethos of this innovative British company. We’re really proud to be associated with Páramo – and take it from people who push kit to its limits, when the going gets tough pull on your Páramo!"
