It's All Gone A Bit Spinal Tap...
Alpkit's 2011 Big Shakeout was a big hit according to everything we've heard – we've already posted the rather neat video of the event in our blogs section, well worth a look if you have three minutes to spare, but here are a few images from the weekend to retrospectively sharpen your appetite for the next one.
Over 300 people rolled up to the event organised by Alpkit and Thornbridge Outdoors at Sheffield Council's Thornbridge Outdoor centre near Bakewell in the White Peak at the weekend.
They lucked out with the weather too, getting blue skies and sunshine in mid-October, which was a bit of a result. There was a mix of climbing, biking, walking and more. Climbers honed their skills at master-classes run by the likes of Johnny Dawes and Andy Kirkpatrick, while mountain bikers benefited from instruction from Campbell Coaching and guided rides led by Ed Oxley's splendid beard.
Then on Saturday evening, there was a mix of entertainment including lectures, films and bands headlined by – it says here – 'the stars of BBC2's Dragon's Den, BassToneSlap'.
Alpkit's Nick Smith sums it up: 'This weekend was all we could have hoped for. We couldn't have asaked for a better crowd, everyone just got into the vibe of the event. The atmosphere around the campfire on Saturday night was electric as people listened to the music and shared the stories of their day.'
