This being Friday, it must be time for the Friday matinee, our
regular helping of Fiday afternoon work time-eating streaming video.
And this week, we thought we'd go looking for some properly cold stuff
in Alaska...
The northernmost State has a reputation for having some astonishing,
often plane-accessed mountaineering with planes ferrying climbers in to
glacier camps in the wilderness. This is a mixed stills / video of a
team climbing the classic Moonflower Buttress on Mount Hunter.
More, climbing and skiing with crevasse action on the Matanuska
Glacier. The voice over is very, erm, American...We actually quite like
it and what a stunning with some mad ice formations.
And then there's Denali, North America's highest peak and, thanks to
the shape of the earth, further from the centre of it than Everest.
Stunning, but very, very tough.
Last but not least, the Iditarod is arguably the toughest race on
earth. Certainly one of the coldest, but it's for dogs and mushers.
Whaty you may not have heard of is Iditabike, the biking version. This
is part one of a documentary about the 1988 race originally
shown on the Discovery Channel, the rest of the documentary
is up there as well. One for wondering and dreaming.
That's all for this week, have a good one.
