Kinder Upfall - Photo Feature
When the wind gets going, the water tumbling down Kinder Downfall simply turns round in mid-air and heads back up and over the edge... Seeing is believing.

There aren't many good things about being wiped out by some
renegade coughin', sneezin' and wheezin' virus, but I'll tell you
what, it sure feels good to be back out on the hills again.
Even when, as yesterday, it's blowing a hoolie on Kinder, normal
people are tucked up behind their desks and the hard-as-nails local
sheep are desperately browsing the Easyjet site looking for a cheap
way out to the sun.
And then you pop up onto the plateau and there, in the distance, a
plume of spray is rising into the air above Kinder Downfall. It's one
of the Peak's most impressive sights. When the wind whistles up the
valley from Kinder reservoir at the right speed and funnels into the
corner, it's strong enough to literally turn the waterfall round in
mid-air and send a huge lick of spray curling back over the top to
where it came from.
It wasn't quite up to those standards yesterday, but we thought
you'd like to see some pics...

Great ending Twiglegs! That's what the waterfall looked like the first time I ever saw it, on a trip with some schoolpals. When we got down to the fish and chip shop at Hayfield we were absolutely full of it... telling the chippy bloke how we could hardly stand up... and how the water was blowing back up... and he just kept a deadpan expression on his face and said... "Normal day then?"
