Gore-Tex Active Shell

Well, it's almost the end of the first week of 2012, so before we career off into the middle distance, here's a quick look at ten things that impressed us over the last 12 months plus one particular launch for this year to top things off.

It's been a phenomenally busy year for waterproofs with two major new fabrics appearing, both good in their own ways, plus a few other developments too, but we'll kick off with Gore's new Gore-Tex Active Shell, which we've been really impressed by.

It's a lightweight fabric that's appreciably more breathable than any other Gore-Tex waterproof material we've used. We've had different jackets on the go for over a year now and we've thrashed it on foot, on bikes, on mountains, everywhere.

The combination of a new manufacturing technique and compulsory minimal design just seems to work and it's become our first choice lightweight fabric for running, biking and lightweight mountain use too. Yes, you can still overwhelm it, but you can overwhelm anything if you run hot enough.

Here's our original launch report
