Our Favourite Books Of 2011

Well, it's hello from a slightly coy looking Ron Fawcett one of over 100 top climbers and explorers featured in one of our top books of 2011, 'Mountain Heroes - Portraits of Adventure' by Huw Lewis-Jones. We like Mountain Heroes partly because it's like nothing we've seen before and it has such a lovely breadth of coverage.

It's just one of seven books we've picked out from this year's crop and they're all subtly different ranging from John Beatty's astonishing book of natural photography, Wild Vision, through to the rather more practical 'Ultimate Navigation Manual' by Lyle Brotherton.

They all have one thing in common. They'd make a fantastic gift for any outdoors person. Or bookshelf for that matter. And hey, if you can't think of a suitable recipient this Christmas, why not just buy one for yourself?

For Mole (404 avoidance :-) ) 12 Dec

I wouldn't want a coffee table book picturing an ol' fella in the bath, but perhaps my tastes are different...

There's just the one shot of Ron in the bath, mostly they're, erm, 'atmospheric' portraits of a massive range of mountaineers, explorers and so on. I kind of like them.

I'm sure there is a Calendar Girls-type market for a topless mountaineers coffee table tome though, maybe next Christmas eh.
