The Friday Matinee!

This week we go all Kilimanjaro on Africa's highest mountain.

If it's Friday - checks calendar - and it is, then it's most definitely time for the Friday Matinee.

This week we thought we'd go to Africa - I had a farm in Africa you know, or was that Meryl Streep. Anyway, here are some clips of Africa's highest mountain starting with one that's visually quite stunning but has the commentary from dull hell... Just look at the pretty pictures eh?

And by way of contrast, here's summit night on Kili, complete with the ever-popular U2 backing track and some nice summity vistas. Plus something you don't see quite as often, the actual summit crater of Kili.

There's lots more over on YouTube, but also lots of clips of Kilimanjaro porters singing :-)

Last but not least, here's the start of wheresmybeanie's Kilimanjaro ascent in stages. Who says Americans don't have a sense of humour...

That's all for this week, have a great weekend.

Right at the end of that last clip. It says Kilimanjaro, worlds heighest free standing mountain .....

Whats a non-freestanding mountain then? I dont see any supports holding everest up???

It stands free from a Massif.....

On its own

Perky

Proud

Pert

In isolation

Or as some would have it:

Free standing

Ah - this is essentially a question about the meaning of a word.

I recommend you ask...

Hot For Words!
