The Friday Matinee

Count down the hours to the weekend at very high altitudes ...

If it’s Friday then it must be time for the Friday matinee, and it’s a very high altitude affair this week, as we’ve just got back from the Himalaya and haven’t yet got used to all the oxygen hanging around in this part of the world.

We featured the Annapurna Circuit in pictures on the site earlier this week so here it is in video – and at rather closer range. The lofty crown of Annapurna 2, the crevasses, the clouds swirling around the mountain tops – and the panting - it’s got it all.

Moving on to Manaslu, which lies just to the east of Annapurna, here are the last few steps to the summit. They’re rather slow and plodding steps, but if you aren’t plodding rather slowly at that height, you’re superman.

And finally we move to the lofty summit of Dhaulagiri, just to the West of Annapurna, to look at sunrises, people stumbling around with skis on their backs, and some very nice powder.

And if you still haven’t had enough snow after all that, you need to move to a country with higher mountains in it because we don't reckon Scotland's going to turn that white any time soon.

Have a good weekend and don't go above 8000m:-)
