Sandstorms, stone mushrooms and - most bizarre of all - clear skies over the Cuillins:-)

Sandstorms, stone mushrooms and - most bizarre of all - clear skies over the Cuillins, in this edition of the OM gallery round-up:-)
Torridon Hills
We'll kick off with some clear Scottish skies, but south of the Cuillins - this sunset was taken over Drumbeg, in the Torridon area, at 11pm at night. No need for a head torch, clearly! For more Torridon pics - with some scrambling thrown in - see the After Glen Coe album.

Trekking Romania
We deny having a drink too many before talking about stone mushrooms - they're real and you can find them at Babele in Romania, or in the OM gallery of course. The new RoMounts album also contains a blast back to winter, if anyone's feeling nostalgic, in the form of a decidedly frosty looking hilltop cross, which is pretty stunning.

Worth the wait
Dennis and Jackie have been working on the principle that patience really is a virtue when it comes to photography. "We waited all week," they said, but "it was worth it!" Further evidence of patience is available in their Favourites album, including some great Dolomites moments!

Sandpit Skies?!
Jonno firmly denies using photoshop to alter the colours in this pic - in fact, he even denies knowing how to use photoshop. Instead, he snapped up the photo during a freak sandstorm. The rest of the Jonno's Pics album is a little less extraordinary, but still well worth browsing, especially if you fancy testing your hiking knowledge in a few 'Where am I?' forum threads.

Student Life
Rolling out of bed at lunchtime, crawling to a lecture in pyjamas, and then drinking half the night - isn't that what studentdom's supposed to be about? Not in Dinky's case. He says, "waking up early and going for a walk paid off!" when he downloaded this photo. It's joined in the A year at uni in the Lakes by some more early morning plant life, although you can't quite beat this pic for the dew.

Sky on Skye
Yes, the blue stuff on top of the world really is visible sometimes. Not everyone's lucky enough to catch it when they head out to the islands though. When you were last there, were you climbing the Cuillin Ridge in glorious sunshine, or was the cloud huddling around your toes?:-( Either gloat or get your worst experiences off your chest in the Skye forum thread or see further clear weather Skye photos in the Skye - The Black Cuillin album, to get the jealousy going.

Clouds
Alan Bellis snapped up this pic from Kinbreak Bothy, Glen Kingie, last week. He said: "I thought I was in for a great sunset as well (this was taken a couple of hours before) but the clouds melted away sadly. Still, I was happy with this one." Quite right too. His Alan's Mountain Travels 5 album is one of the best we've seen for a while, with a small but magnetic selection of sunrises, sunsets, and good old mountain panoramas.
