The Week In Pics

Snow and sunshine from Italy, Nepal, and the good old Ben have been flooding into the gallery in the last week, not to mention some authentic mountaineering fashion from 1989. Remember the days of knee length red socks, red hats, and luminous yellow and pink jackets? Well, they're back again, live on OM:-)

Italian High Level Route

Starting a bit closer to the present day though, Marcus Crompton's obviously been on one of the treks of his life with KE Adventure travel. This photo was taken "near the Gandegg Hut above Zermatt, 29.7.07" with the "Matterhorn being shy behind" and there's plenty more ice, rock and camaraderie to go with it in the Italian High Level Route 2007 with KE album. Given the four pages of lofty peaks and clear skies - yes really - filling its pages, this is more of a lunch time browse than a coffee break one.

Annapurna Circuit

When Tall Paul described his album as a selection of Worldwide Rambles, he really did mean 'worldwide'. Having finished his trek in the Himalayas, he now appears to be reporting from the extremely remote Dusky Track in New Zealand - let's just hope he's coping OK with the sand flies.

Ben Nevis

The clue's in the name - Jonathan Clarke's Ben Nevis album deals with all things Nevis, from camping on the Ben, to climbing the CMD arete, to soaking up several dusky views from the summit, like the one below.

An Teallach

As Ayrshire Tiger says: "That wasnae this summer! ;-)" We've no idea what he's trying to say about this summer though. Nothing to do with the weather, surely? For more meteorological oddities - or just glimpses of the good old days when the sun shone - see the Various album, which is, well, varied.

Beinn a Bhuird

We'd hazard a guess that this pic wasn't taken this summer either, although it looks like another perfect day of Dodging DIY nonetheless. As we're in Nevis mode, we should point out that the album also includes some rather nice shots of Ben Nevis in the sunshine, not to mention a sunset over Slioch and Lochan Fada and an unbeatable pic of the Upper Forcan Ridge, back in April.

Goredale Scar

In case you're feeling the shortage of greenery at this point, here's a suitably lush photo from the Yorkshire Dales, where Greg Bowring has been "chilling half way up Goredale Scar". Not a bad choice of location, as chilling spots go.

The Cobbler

And finally, here's the promised flash-back to the mountaineering fashion of the late '80s and early '90s, for those who were on the mountains back then. Forget the climb, this pic's all about the pink and luminous yellow jacket, with knee-length red socks to complete the image. Own up now, who wore them?!
