We're just back from a completely ethical, non-commercial, non-corrupt breakfast with the PM, but we just couldn't miss the BBC media storm over Kenton Cool's intention to carry an Olympic gold medal to the summit of Everest, the world's highest mountain. this summer.

It's one of those odd, sepia-tinted stories revolving around a pledge to do just that some 88 years ago, but it's a long tale and one you can find in full at

If Cool succeeds in climbing the mountain, it wll be a record tenth ascent for one of Britain's leading mountaineers and guides. And as if that isn't enough, Cool is also set to be an Olympic torch bearer later this year.

And got prominant Samsung logo onto breakie telly on auntie beeb in the process.

Makes a change from the usual outdoor brands that get their logos on Beeb. Think they pay their presenters and journalists too much as they are now more likely to be wearing Arcteryx than cheapo Berghaus or Sprayway!!

Good story though about the medal promise though and good for him on the 10th summit if he makes it. I  do wonder who has the record number of summits, if there is a list of multiple summiters and where K. Cool is in that list. One question I have is whether it is better in kudos terms to do all the 8000'ers or most Everest summit ascents (and descents of course)?
