Sheffield's annual outdoors outudoor festival is this weekend and it's getting greener too...
First, this is a thinly veiled excuse to remind you that this year's Cliffhanger, the Sheffield outdoor oudoors festival, which actually takes place out of doors, specifically in Millhouses Park, is this coming weekend, the 2/3 July with a whole bunch of outdoor activities, entertainment and the UK round of the World Bouldering Cup.
Not only that - and there are links to previous articles below if you want to know more about what's on and check out the Alastair Lee, Cliffhanger video, but Cliffhanger's also looking to get greener. There's already a free park and ride bus service in operation and cycling and walking to the venue is encouraged, but Festival Director Matt Heason is keen to take things further and has commissioned an environmental audit from Sheffield-based consultancy, 'Sustainable Balance'.
“We’re delighted that more people come to Cliffhanger every year to be inspired," says Matt. "And have a go at a huge range of adventure sports and family friendly activities. But we’re conscious that the shoe-size of our carbon footprint is growing too!
"We already provide a free Park and Ride bus service, and encourage people to walk or come by bike but we know there’s lots more we can do. So by holding this review and pledging to reduce our impact on the environment we hope we’ll also inspire our visitors to think about how they can do the same.”
‘Sustainable Balance’ Director Amy Hutchins says: “Could Cliffhanger aspire to be a carbon neutral event? In the long term we don’t see why not. We think aiming to become a ‘zero waste to landfill’ event like the London Olympics is a realistic goal.”
Good to see Cliffhanger doing its bit by the environment. To find out more details about the event, check out the links to our previous Cliffhanger articles below, browse the piccies or simply head on over to www.cliff-hanger.co.uk for all the info you need.
