Most OMers will live their lives in blissful ignorance of the massive European OutDoor trade show in Friedrichshafen, but within the outdoor industry - hello outdoor industry peeps - it's a big deal, a mighty behemoth of an event where everyone who's anyone launches their new kit for the following spring. So in this case, spring 2013.
Anyway, the 2012 version of OutDoor is almost upon us and it's great to see the OIA - Outdoors Industry Association - the UK's trade body being impressively proactive. This year they're working with the guys at OMM to launch the 2012 Original Mountain Marathon, you know, what used to be the KIMM at the show.
In addition, they'll be giving visitors the chance to win ten OMM packs in a special 'mini OMM' at the show. Visitors will be able to collect special race cards from the OMM stand then bomb around the show visiting a series of checkpoints at OIA member stands with the winners being drawn during the OMM 2012 launch event.
Andy Williams of OMM comments: “OMM is delighted to be working with the OIA."
While Andrew Denton of the OIA hit back with: “The Original Mountain Marathon has a fantastic heritage and reputation that extends far beyond its UK base. It is an event that has vision, is extremely authentic, and is a British success story, all words I would like more people to use when describing the OIA. We look forward to revealing more about OMM 2012 on our stand and meeting many existing and potential association members during OutDoor.”
What you really need to know though is that progress OutDoor at may well be rendered hazardous by red-faced and sweaty UK trade bods racing desperately between stands. So no change there then...
The important details? OMM 2012 will be officially launched on the OIA stand (hall B5, stand 406) at 3pm on Saturday 14 July, when the first details of this year’s race will be revealed to the outdoor industry.
We'll see you there. And if we don't, no worries, we shall be reporting back live and dangerous from sunny Deutschland in just over a week's time.
